This site is designed to lead the way, by example, into a broader interactive discussion on topics that are, or should be, of local interest. Do I have an agenda in doing this? Probably. We all have our own ideas about the way things "ought to be". But I intend to manage this discussion from two different perspectives: 1) as the manager of the blog, and 2) as one who posts to the blog.
In my first role, I make a committment not to censor based on political, religious, ideological, or other differences of opinion. If a response is socially out of line, whether rude, vulgar, threatening, or otherwise disrespectful of another site user or the site audience in general, the response may be removed. And if the discussion breaks down into a series of stalemate arguement points, I'll ask that we either change our line of reasoning or drop the discussion. You can't change someone's mind by sheer force.
The point here is that we can PROGRESS if we create an environment where we can discuss and debate topics openly, in an atmosphere of respect. You disagree with me? Fine, just RESPECT my right to a differing opinion, and I'll do the same for you.
In my 2nd role, I'll act as I would ask any other user to act. I will post comments, and make a passioned plea for my position. And I will work to keep an open mind as I read other opinions. It is this process that I believe has been lacking in recent years, as too many are willing only to consider the views of only those with whom they agree.
